Kenny's Tip of the Day - Growth Comes From Uncomfortable Things!!!
Most of us, by nature, don’t like to be uncomfortable. We don’t want to try new things. It makes perfect sense but at the same time is also totally or mostly useless for our growth as people and as music professionals.
Anyone can do easy tasks. The ones that don’t challenge us. But when we’re stuck with something hard that we most overcome, that’s when we actually grow. Become better at our craft.
So the next time you’re tasked with doing something you really don’t want to do and your creative mind figures out a way that you can avoid it. Stop yourself. Think. Is there something you can learn here? And even if there isn’t. Just do it anyway. You might surprise yourself.
Every time you take on a client, a style of music, even something that is pretty terrible. Think about it. Or don’t think about it. Just do it and see what comes out of it.
Growth comes from doing things that don’t make you comfortable. A stand up comedian is nervous every time he or she gets on stage. They do it anyway. Same with musicians. Getting used to being uncomfortable and conquering that is a great skill to have in and of itself. As I said. Anyone can do things that they want. But true growth comes from doing things you really don’t want to do.
