Kenny's Tip of the Day - "Dress for the job you want. Not the one you have".
No one wakes up one day and becomes a professional Record Producer, Mixer or Engineer. It doesn't just happen. You have to make it happen. And there never is a point where it does happen. So you have to create or define your own points.
Decide now that you are better than you think you are and sell people on this idea. Now I wouldn't suggest lying. I've seen many people in this arena calling themselves an "award winning producer" and I have yet to find that award. :) Don't be a wannabe.
I'm just talking about taking yourself seriously in what you do, and your clients will do the same. Don't put yourself out there as someone just TRYING to make a living or still learning all the time. Yes. We're ALL still learning all the time. But you need to be who you want to be.
Call yourself a Record Producer or Mixer. It changes the way others see you. Especially your clients.
I remember being at a meeting with an artist at SONY and we all looked around the room (12 or more people) and it was hard to tell who the artist was. The girl (artist) came in dressed like a secretary. She thought she needed to look professional. Big mistake.
When our Artists (signed to my production company) came to record label meetings, everyone knew THEY were the Artist. They were dressed like Rock Stars. And that changed how those meetings went.
Dress for the job you want. Not the one you currently have.
I hope this message finds you well - Kenny
